...in questi anni di BostonOssessione, ho avuto l'onore ed il piacere di conoscere, seppur virtualmente, molti stimati e famosi allevatori da tutto il mondo. Ho domandato ad alcuni di loro, di avere la possibilità di poterli intervistare, parlandoci appunto della razza e, molti di loro hanno accettato con entusiasmo di collaborare a questo mio progetto, così ogni mese pubblicherò la rubrica: "L'allevatore del mese"!

1) Innanzitutto grazie, è un piacere ed un onore poterla intervistare! Direi di cominciare dal principio…ci racconti un po’ la sua storia, come e quando si è appassionato alla razza?
Mi sono innamorata di questa meravigliosa razza, quando ero bambina, mia madre e mio padre presero la nostra prima Boston quando avevo solo 7 anni nel 1971. Dopo di che, sono rimasta senza Boston solo per un anno. Loro hanno tutto, sono giocosi e vogliono stare insieme a noi tutto il tempo. Sono una razza fantastica, non vorrei mai vivere senza.

2) Quando invece ha deciso di allevare? Quali sono stati i suoi primi cani da show e da riproduzione?
Ho iniziato l'allevamento 1986. La mia prima femmina fu Chandi, la quale divenne Campionessa Internazionale, ed è stata lei che ha avviato il mio cammino come allevatrice. Lei fu la madre delle mie cucciolate B e D, per un totale di 11 cuccioli di cui 3 divennero campioni Internazionali e 2 campioni Svedesi. Ma il Boston migliore che abbia mai allevato finora è Chandis Madicken nata nel 2003. Lei è diventata Campionessa Mondiale a Stoccolma nel 2008 e nel 2012 a Salisburgo Campionessa Mondiale Veterani. Sua madre, Chandis Kajsa Kavat, divenne anche lei Campionessa Mondiale Veterani ad Herning nel 2010.

3) Secondo lei quali sono i punti di forza ed i punti di debolezza di questa razza?
Il loro punto di forza in assoluto è la loro intelligenza e la felicità nella vita, sono pieni di amore e sono dei veri amici. La debolezza...io davvero non ho ancora trovato nulla.
4) Quali consigli può dare a chi si avvicina per la prima volta ai BT?
Consiglierei di far qualche attività con il proprio BT, non solo delle brevi passeggiate. Io alleno i miei cani in molti modi diversi e se io non lo faccio un giorno, vengono e mi chiedono di fare qualcosa di divertente con loro.
5) Ci sono molti modi per alimentare un cane…lei cosa usa?
Adesso io do loro cibo industriale chiamato “Happy Dog", ma per molti anni ho utilizzato la “Hill’s".

6) Riuscirebbe a fare il punto sulla razza? Ci sono degli aspetti da migliorare ed altri a cui fare attenzione?
Credo che tutti abbiamo bisogno di migliorare la nostra comprensione dello Standard. Le persone devono imparare ad essere più obiettive per valutare la qualità dei loro cani allevando solo cani testati e sani. Qui in Scandinavia abbiamo un programma di salute per la respirazione, i cani non devono emettere suoni di affaticamento quando respirano. Spero che vada bene e che in futuro possiamo continuare ad allevare bene la nostra splendida razza.

7) Cosa si sentirebbe di consigliare a chi vorrebbe allevare questa razza?
Il mio consiglio è quello di prendere contatto con qualcuno che è stato nella razza per molti anni, cercando di imparare più che possono da quell’allevatore. Non si diventerà esperti nella razza per molti, molti anni.
8) I suoi progetti per il futuro?
Sono sempre alla ricerca di maschi che siano sia belli che sani per usarli in riproduzione con le mie femmine. Io amo i miei cani e spero di poter continuare ad allevare ancora per molti anni a venire.

1) First of all, it’s my pleasure to interview you. Let’s start from the beginning. Tell us
your story, when and how did you fall in love with the BT breed?
I fell in love of this wonderful breed when I was a child, my mother and father came with our first Boston when I only was 7 years old in 1971. After that I have only been without a Boston for one year. They have everything, they are playful and want to do everything together with you do all the time. They are a fantastic breed that I never want live without.
2) When did you start breeding? Which ones were your first dogs for shows
and reproduction?
I started breeding 1986. My first broodbitch was Chandi and she became International Champion, she was the one that started me on my road to breeder. She was mother to my B and D litter 11 puppies three of them Int champion and two swedish champions. But the best Boston I’ve bred so far must be Chandis Madicken born 2003. She won the World winner show in Stockholm 2008 and Saltzburg world winner Veteran in 2012. Her mother Chandis Kajsa Kavat is also Veteran World winner in Herning 2010.
3) In your opinion, what are the strength and weakness of the breed?
The strength its absolutely their intelligence and happiness in life, they are full of love and a true friend. The weakness I really don’t know as I have not found any yet.
4) What advice would you give to the person that approaches this breed for the very first time?
That they must do something not only small walk. I train my dog in many different ways and if I don’t do it one day they come and tell me to do something fun with them.
5) There are many ways to feed your dog. What kind of food do you use?
Right now I give them "Happy Dog" but for many year I have been feeding them “Hill’s".
6) Could you give us a general look on the breed? Are there any aspects to improve and others to pay attention at?
I think that we all need to improve our understanding of the Standard. People need to learn to be more objective in evaluating the quality of dogs in their kennel and only breed healthy, tested dogs. Here in Scandinavia we had a health program about the breathing and respiratory, the dogs should not be making sounds when breathing. I hope it goes well and that in the future we can combine that with our beautiful breed.
7) What would you say to someone that would like to start breeding Boston Terriers?
My advice is that they should take contact with someone who has been in the breed for many years and learn as much they can from that breeder. You is not expert on breed for many, many year.
8) Any projects for the future?
I am always on the lookout for beautiful, healthy and sound Boston boys to breed my females to. I love my dogs and hope that I can continue breeding many more years to come. Thank you so much again for giving me the chance to ask you some questions! Good luck to you and your kennel!
